Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, is seeking to hire a Public Safety Officer, Casual to patrol building interiors/exteriors and parking facilities. Monitors ongoing campus security issues. This role provides coverage for shifts as needed. No assigned hours.
Non-Exempt Hourly Pay Rate: $20.68
Protects life, safeguards property and maintains peace and order on the college campus through enforcement of local, state, and federal laws as well as college rules and regulations.
Pro-actively patrols a residential community and prevents crime.
Responds to emergency situations and works closely with local police and emergency services personnel.
Conducts preliminary investigations involving criminal or suspicious activities
Prepares, writes and files reports.
High School Diploma or GED required.
1-3 years of experience with procedures for effective security, codes and regulations related to the work, law enforcement procedures and terminology, and techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person, often where relations may be confrontational or strained.
Ability to anticipate/solve problems based on prior experience, information and/or changes to laws/regulations. Problem solving and solution implementation.
Assignments require a high level of judgment, initiative, creative approaches to troubleshooting and the ability to make recommendations on improvement.
Must be able to operate and understand the card access software/hardware and understand CCTV software/hardware.
Ability to use office equipment. Proficient in organization and documentation.
Ability to operate card access systems, CCTV systems and radio systems.
Strong communication skills, both in written and oral formats. Good interpersonal skills. The ability to interact, consult and influence employees, staff and customers both internally and externally.

Compensation
This is a part-time, non-exempt position, with an hourly rate of $20.68.
