Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research and Instruction Librarian who would thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment. For this position, we are specifically looking for someone who will liaise with the Natural Sciences and Mathematics departments and provide support in Emerging Technologies as their specialty functional area. This position plays a pivotal role in providing research and instructional support to faculty, students, and staff, focusing on integrating information literacy goals into course assignments and leading efforts in emerging technologies in libraries and research. 

 

We encourage any candidate who is curious and willing to delve deeper into Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in academia to apply. We welcome candidates excited to learn and expand their expertise while in the position.


This position offers some work-from-home opportunities with increased flexibility during academic calendar breaks.

Responsibilities

 

Liaison Responsibilities:

 

  • Engage in outreach to stakeholders to meet information needs and service expectations.
  • Design and implement strategic instructional methods to apply within a variety of teaching opportunities.
  • Develop and manage collections to support research and instruction in subject areas.
  • Provide specialized research consultation and reference services.
  • Stay informed of developments in scholarly communication and information science.

 

Specialized Functional Area:

 

  • Provide instructional and consultative services on emerging technologies impacting the information landscape, libraries, and research.
  • Create cross-disciplinary workshops, events, and training resources on emerging technologies.
  • Stay abreast of developments and trends in AI and generative AI advancements, integrating implications into curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Proactively explore and implement emerging technologies in research and information management, enhancing library services and user experiences.
  • Collaborate with Sciences faculty, staff, and students to provide data and research support services for curricular integration and student success.
  • Assess new technological innovations and evaluate their impact on libraries and research methodologies.

Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with instruction, information literacy, and assessment in a library setting.
  • Demonstrated use and application of emerging technologies and tools in a library and/or instructional setting.
  • Functional understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the research environment.
  • Commitment to user-centered library services.
  • Strong understanding of key issues and trends in instruction and engagement.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • A college degree or credential in a scientific field (e.g. biology, physics, geology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computer science, etc.)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in providing liaison responsibilities in Sciences.
  • Practical knowledge of ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • Experience providing instruction and engagement services for undergraduate students.
  • Experience developing instructional tutorials and educational resources.
  • Experience providing reference services and research consultations.
  • Experience with coding languages and development environments used in academic research (R, RStudio, Python, Bash, MatLab, Mathematica, etc.).



Compensation:

The annual salary for this 1.0 FTE position will be between $60,500-$64,000.
