Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research and Instruction Librarian who would thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment. For this position, we are specifically looking for someone who will liaise with the Social Sciences departments and provide Data Literacy support as their specialty functional area. This position will play a vital role in providing research and instructional support to faculty and students, integrating information literacy goals into course assignments, leading efforts in data-oriented pedagogical and support services, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment within the library and across campus.

This position offers some work-from-home opportunities with increased flexibility during academic calendar breaks.

Responsibilities

Liaison Responsibilities:

 

  • Engage with and outreach to stakeholders to identify and meet information needs.
  • Design and implement strategic instructional methods to apply within a variety of teaching opportunities.
  • Develop and manage collections to support research and instruction.
  • Provide specialized research consultation and reference services.
  • Stay informed of developments in scholarly communication and information science.

 

Specialized Functional Area:

 

  • Provide instructional and consultative services in data visualization, curation, and management.
  • Offer data curation and management services to researchers across disciplines.
  • Create cross-disciplinary workshops, events, and training resources on Data Literacy.
  • Stay abreast of developments and trends in data services, visualization, GIS, and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in providing liaison responsibilities in Social Sciences and/or Data Literacy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with instruction, information literacy, and assessment in a library setting.
  • Understanding of data management trends and best practices.
  • Awareness of data ethics and privacy considerations.
  • Demonstrated interest in developing knowledge and skills in data analysis and visualization.
  • Commitment to user-centered library services.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Degree or credential in social science, data science, or related disciplines.
  • Practical knowledge of ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • Basic knowledge of at least one commonly used GIS software and/or a data analysis software (such as R, SPSS, Python, or others) .
  • Familiarity with data-driven storytelling.
  • Knowledge of the impact of artificial intelligence in educational or research settings.

 

Compensation:

The annual salary for this 1.0 FTE position will be between $60,500-$64,000.
