Overview

This position will assist the Head Football Coach in all aspects of running a competitive collegiate football program.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruitment of student-athletes, academic support, practice planning, in-game strategy, strength and conditioning, technical support (practice and game film), social media maintenance, and the holistic development and support of student-athletes.

 

This position will be responsible for coaching a position group and thoroughly covering a recruiting area.

 

The weekly schedule for this position will primarily be Monday through Friday onsite 8:00am-4:30pm but will be required to be flexible according to the football schedule. This position is a 0.67 FTE that works 38.75 hours weekly Mid-August to Mid-November and 27 hours weekly Mid-November to Mid June. 

 

About The Department:

 Macalester is committed to being a preeminent liberal arts college with an educational program known for its high standards for scholarship and its special emphasis on internationalism, multiculturalism, and service to society.  Macalester offers 21 sports at the intercollegiate level competing within Division III of the NCAA, with 400+ students participating in varsity athletics. All sports, except women’s water polo, compete as members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Responsibilities

Practice and Competition Coaching: 

  • Assists the head coach in practice preparation and organization; and in conducting safe and strategic individual and team training sessions and competitive strategies. 
  • Executes appropriate coaching decisions during practice and competition that ensure the welfare of the student-athletes representing the program. 

 

Recruitment: 

  • Assists the head coach in the development and execution of a comprehensive recruitment plan that shows successful results for the recruitment, yield, and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in a rigorous academic environment. 
  • Serves as an effective recruiter for the program working within the parameters of Macalester, MIAC, and NCAA rules, resulting in healthy roster numbers and competitive program.

 

Student-Athlete Development: 

  • Assists Sports Performance Team in designing and executing competitive strength and conditioning plans for student-athletes to develop physically.  
  • Assists Head Football Coach with the holistic development of student-athletes, including academic support and participation in offseason personal development curriculum.

 

Video and Social Media:

  • Oversees all facets of film and video needs for a Division III Football program.  
  • Utilizes independent judgment to produced quality game and practice video for coaching staff, players, and opponents.  
  • Manages video library and responds to requests from other coaches for football.  Oversees social media accounts and is responsible for developing graphics/videos for distribution.

 

Student Affairs/LC Oversight:

  • Holds duties assisting Student Affairs and Athletic Facilities staff with proper building maintenance and oversight to ensure a safe and clean environment for community members.

 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Completes other responsibilities as assigned. Participates as an active member of the team. 
  • Participates in department and college activities and supports implementation of shared goals and initiatives. 
  • Provides backup support to other members of the team.

Qualifications

  • 1 year or less of playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level is required.  
  • Experience at the Division III level is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in practice/training methods, competitive strategies, and results-oriented recruiting.  Creates a positive, organized, and enriching experience for student-athletes involved in the program.
  • General experience using Google office applications (spreadsheets and slides); Admissions and recruitment applications; film and graphic editing software.
  • Effective teaching methods and leadership, organizational, and communication skills; the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Responsible for aiding head coach and coordinators in developing and implementing effective strategies to maximize the competitiveness of our student-athletes.
  • Proper maintenance and operation of filming devices including cameras and iPads.
  • Assists head coach in outreach and fundraising efforts with friends, family, and alumni of the football program.
  • Works with various departments and personnel at the college to aid in the development of a positive student-athlete experience; contributes to a positive, team-oriented working relationship within the athletic department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and the ability to work within the framework of college policies, MIAC regulations, and NCAA Division III philosophy and rules

 

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be between $27,475 - $28,724 depending on qualifications.
