Overview

Supervises and directs custodial staff to ensure the cleanliness of all College buildings. Coordinates scheduling and adequate level of service required for events across campus, meetings and other campus events. Coordinates clean-up following events.

 Aids the Custodial Manager in setting cleaning standards, preparing annual job re-bid process and budget preparation. Responsible for equipment inventory, inspections and maintenance and is responsible for overseeing the custodial department in the Custodial Managers absence. 

 

The weekly schedule for this position will be Sunday to Thursday or Monday through Friday. Both options require flexibility to work weekend and evening events as needed. 

 

About The Department: 

Facilities Services is responsible for the maintenance, repair, safety and security of the Colleges buildings and grounds. In addition, we manage the construction and renovation activities on campus.

 

We oversee approximately 80 full-time employees and 40 to 60 student employees organized in the following divisions:

  • Administration
  • Building Maintenance
  • Custodial
  • Energy Management
  • Environmental Health and Safety
  • Grounds
  • Sustainability
  • Mechanical Maintenance
  • Public safety

Responsibilities

  • Schedules staffing for event setups, cleaning of buildings and meetings. Monitors, reviews, updates staff time sheets. Supervises third shift custodians while assisting with the supervision of first and second shift custodians. 
  • Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the entire campus community and establishes custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects. 
  • Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regarding job applicants. Ensures that administrative records and reports regarding custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing employee time cards and monitoring employee absences.
  • Determines projects and overtime (including seasonal snow removal) staffing needs. Performs routine reviews of quality standards of shift. Oversees equipment tracking and maintenance, performs light equipment repair and assists other facilities departments with overnight tasks.
  • Ensures that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting  work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines. Presents building reviews to respective custodian. Submits work order requests. 
  •  Develops an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards, providing required performance evaluations on custodial personnel and making recommendations regarding the retention of new employees.
  • Review buildings, determining what areas may need changes for the following year. Making changes as needed on job descriptions each year for bidding.
  •  Remains competent and current by attending training and/or courses required by the immediate supervisor. 
  • Participates as an active member of the team. Participates in department and college   activities and supports implementation of shared goals and initiatives. Provides backup support to other members of the team.
  •  Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in business Management (Preferred)
  • High School diploma/GED (Required)
  • Computer Skills such as Microsoft office, Google Suite, EMS
  • Must possess a valid Class C Minnesota Drivers License
  • Four years of custodial supervisory experience is preferred. 
  •  At least four years of custodial cleaning experience with at least two years of Supervisory experience. This includes but is not limited to:
    •  Thorough knowledge of proper cleaning procedures, equipment knowledge and maintenance as well as safe use of chemicals according to Material Safety Data Sheets. 
    • Must be able to read, understand and follow units of measure on product labels.
    • Ability to problem solve and adapt as situations present themselves. 
    • Must have an excellent attendance record and demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment, respectful communication and customer service skills.

 

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be between $54,560 – 57,040, depending on experience.
