Overview

The Associate Director of Disability Resources assists the Director in overseeing the daily operations of the office including conducting intakes, reviewing documentation and determining accommodations based on student eligibility. The Associate Director is responsible for consulting with faculty on student concerns, assisting with collection of assessment data, developing and facilitating campus programming, and conducting training for campus partners. Additional responsibilities include direct supervision of the Center for Disability Resources Testing Coordinator, conducting student intakes, and meeting with students 1-1 as needed.

 

This is a full-time, exempt position that requires being onsite during business hours Monday through Friday. 


About The Department:
The Center for Disability Resources strives to create an inclusive and welcoming community where individuals with disabilities have equitable access at Macalester by addressing barriers, promoting disability justice, and providing education across campus. Disability Resources is responsible for determining and implementing academic, housing, and dining accommodations, supporting accessibility for major campus events such as commencement and new student orientation, serving as a resource for faculty and staff, and ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Minnesota Rise Act, and other applicable state and federal laws.

Responsibilities

Assist with oversight of daily operations:

  • Assists with the oversight of various aspects of the office supporting the operational and strategic goals of the office.
  • Conducts intakes, reviews documentation and determines accommodations based on student eligibility.
  • Plans and coordinates campus-wide co-curricular programming.
  • Serves as the primary point-person for prospective students and families.
  • Assists the director with budget development and implementation, strategic planning and

assessment, reviews and implements department specific policies and procedures; and overall office operations.

  • Provides direct supervision of the Center for Disability Resources Testing Coordinator.
  • Supports assigned students with facilitating accommodations as needed in a timely manner. This includes, but is not limited to, 1-1 meetings, requesting alternative text, testing, note-taking, or other approved accommodations
  • Provides information, referrals, and support to enrolled students with disabilities, including identification of internal and external resources necessary for evaluation and accommodation.
  • Maintains a caseload of students with disabilities.
  • Stays abreast of the Americans with Disabilities Act (AADA), ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and applicable Federal and state laws.

Student and College community collaborations:

  • Provides information about the Center for Disability Resources to students and the Macalester College community.
  • Provides leadership in developing strategic initiatives that promote and advance a framework of universal design campus-wide.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff across campus to promote inclusive learning environments and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborates frequently with other staff/other student services areas of the College.
  • Serves on College Committees at the direction of the Director.

Data, alternative technology and case management systems:

  • Maintains accurate record keeping of case notes, student interactions, and accommodations requests via AIM System, Excel spreadsheets or other electronic interfaces.
  • Attends training related to data management and alternative testing technology.

Organizational meetings, programming and other staff support:

  • Attends Student-Affairs divisional meetings and events such as retreats and other related meetings.
  • Provides consultation and decision-making in planning for and responding to crises.
  • Advocates for departmental needs to support student engagement initiatives.
  • Serves in divisional leadership roles and committees within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Serves as member of the on-call team within the Division of Student Affairs. Assists with emergency response and crisis management situations
  • Other Responsibilities: Completes other responsibilities as assigned. Participates as an active member of the team. Participates in department and college activities and supports implementation of shared goals and initiatives. Provides backup support to other members of the team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience, particularly in the area of disability resources or academic advising in higher education (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). 
  • Strong working knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable federal and state laws. 
  • Knowledge of current and practices related to disability services in a higher education setting. Knowledge of Assistive Technology in a higher education setting. 
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising staff. 
  • Knowledge of assessment and strategic planning in a higher education setting. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing co-curricular programs that help advance equity, inclusion, and social justice. 
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative partnerships across campus.

 

Compensation:

The salary for this position will be $60,016 - $62,744, depending on experience.
