Overview

Macalester College seeks to hire a Costume Shop Manager. This is a part-time (.62FTE- 32 hours per week) position during the academic year. This role is responsible for the management of the Costume Shop and Costume Inventory; Costume selection and construction and provides supervision of student workers.

 

About The Department:

The Theater and Dance Department at Macalester College is proud to provide talented undergraduates with a transformative liberal arts education. 

 

The department is part of the newly built Janet Wallace Art Center. 

In addition to classrooms, our facilities include two theaters (the Main and James Williams Theaters), a state-of-the-art costume shop and scene shop, and dance and design studios. Theater and Dance faculty are active artists in their fields, in the Twin Cities and beyond. Prominent local companies include the Children’s Theater Company; the Guthrie theater; Theater Mu; Jungle Theater; Mixed Blood; Penumbra Theatre; Pillsbury House and Theatre; Ananya Dance Theatre; and TU Dance, among many others.

Responsibilities

 

  • Manages the Costume Shop and Costume Inventory, including the selections and constructions of costumes. Supervise and train student workers. Collaborate with over-hire stitchers as needed.
  • Collaborates with faculty and guest designers, directors, and production team by attending production and department meetings, students’ Work Weekends, and technical rehearsals (regular rehearsals if needed for costume-related work).
  • Proficiency in hair and makeup is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing a costume shop. 
  • A demonstrated knowledge of costume construction and rental, the ability to supervise student workers, and collaborate with faculty, staff, and guest artists. 
  • Proven track record of work as costumer in educational and/or professional theatre.
  • Experience working in higher education is preferred.

 

Compensation:

 

The annual salary for this position will be $34,504-$36,072 depending on experience.
